YouTube delivers Coachella 2019 to millions of global music fans with official two-weekend live stream

For the ninth year in a row, YouTube continues to take the magic of Coachella beyond the Indio desert and into the homes and phones of millions of people around the world with the exclusive two-weekend live stream of Coachella 2019. YouTube is providing a global stage for artists and fans to connect with live stream performances from headliners to some of the biggest artists on the rise, including Childish Gambino, Ariana Grande, Tame Impala, Kacey Musgraves, Billie Eilish, BLACKPINK, Juice WRLD, Kid Cudi, Wiz Khalifa, Gryffin, Maggie Rogers, Chvrches Little Zimz, Cola Boyy and many more.

YouTube Music is turning it up a notch at Coachella 2019, making sure music fans — no matter where they are — can enjoy the world’s preeminent music festival in convenient and immersive new ways.

Weekend 1 Live Stream (April 12-14)

YouTube’s Weekend 1 live stream, presented by T-Mobile in the U.S., and Garnier and Coca-Cola in Canada, will give music fans around the world the best seats in the desert for groundbreaking performances from their favorite artists when they tune into Coachella’s YouTube Channel on any screen (desktop, mobile and living room) and within the YouTube Music app.

Fans tuning in will have their choice of three live stream feeds with different artists performing simultaneously. Programming starts at 4 p.m. PT on Friday, April 12, and runs through the weekend. To ensure you don’t miss your favorite performance, personalized viewing schedules can be created and live stream channels will automatically change to artists selected by fans.

Highlights from the weekend will be available through a video-on-demand hub, with co-hosts Nadeska Alexis, Valerie Lee, and special guests to bring fans interviews with artists and creators from throughout the festival.

First-Ever Weekend 2 Coachella Curated Live Stream (April 19-21)

For the first time ever, YouTube Music and Coachella will keep the cameras rolling on weekend 2, with a carefully curated live stream sponsored by Pantene and CALVIN KLEIN in the U.S., and Garnier and Coca-Cola in Canada. Coachella Curated, hosted by Jason Bentley from KCRW, will take a deep dive into the festival experience and deliver fans a slate of original content—encore and live performances, artist commentary, mini-docs, animated adventures and more—to accompany the best bits of live music and in-studio interviews with Coachella performers.

Coachella Curated sets its sights on artists from across the line-up and captures them on-site and off, spanning the globe to share stories from the homes of headliner performers, festival favorites and newly discovered talent. These traveling tales—filmed on six continents with Coachella’s Paul Tollett—offer a unique look at the multinational energy that comes together on the Empire Polo Grounds before beaming back out via YouTube.

Confirmed artists appearing in the Coachella Curated live stream display the diversity of talent taking the stage in Indio. Weekend 2 programming and live stream schedule will be available soon.

Experience Coachella Through the YouTube Music App

The YouTube Music app (iOS, Android) will be home to this year’s most complete Coachella music experience with the launch of live streaming. Whether you’re at home on the couch or at the pool in Indio, you can enjoy playlists based on this year’s lineup, such as The Lineup, Hip-Hop, and Latin. Watch or listen in audio-only mode to the live stream both weekends, and check out performance clips after the festival is over.

Live from New York City’s Times Square

YouTube will make history with a first-ever broadcast of a festival live stream on New York City’s iconic Times Square big screen, giving East Coast music fans a chance to gather together and share in the Coachella experience. YouTube makes it simple for fans to experience live performances with Eventbrite

Over 1 billion fans come to YouTube each month to connect with their favorite artists and discover new music. Thanks to a new partnership with Eventbrite, we’re making it simple for fans to go from experiencing music online to seeing live performances.

Starting today, fans watching videos from YouTube Official Artist Channels will see Eventbrite listings for live music performances throughout the U.S. below the video. With one easy click on the “Tickets” button, they’ll be able to purchase directly from Eventbrite.

Live events continue to be a major source of revenue for artists, so we want to help artists keep fans updated on their upcoming shows and sell more tickets to live performances. YouTube’s global audience also lets artists find new fans with 26% of Millenials (44% of teens) claiming they discover live music events on YouTube, according to Nielsen.

Through our partnerships with Eventbrite and Ticketmaster, YouTube now covers more than 70% of the US ticketing market and we’ll continue to add new artists and venues of all sizes to our list in North America as well as expand globally.

We’re excited to further the power of video discovery on Youtube to bring artists and fans together and continue supporting those connections through live shows.

Elton John announces final tour on YouTube in VR180 bringing together fans around the world

Elton John has entertained us, moved us, and had an unparalleled career that has redefined the cultural landscape. His unforgettable hits — “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer” — changed what it meant to be a singer-songwriter, catapulted him to global mega stardom, soundtracked our childhoods, and changed lives along the way. Now after more than half a century on the road, Elton announced details of his final tour, “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” via an exclusive VR180 livestream on YouTube.

Kicking off in the U.S. on September 8, 2018, the tour will consist of more than 300 shows across five continents before reaching its conclusion in 2021. Elton’s new stage production will take his fans on a musical and highly visual journey spanning a 50-year career of hits like no one has ever seen before.

The tour announcement was made at a marquee event at Gotham Hall in New York City, simultaneously transmitted to Troubadour in L.A. and YouTube Space London. And thanks to YouTube’s exclusive VR180 livestream, fans all around the world were part of the action and revisited some of the defining moments that set Elton on his unstoppable path to global superstardom.

Elton John is always up for doing things differently, using the latest technology to help him defy space and time, connecting his past and future. Last year, Elton’s YouTube-supported “The Cut” gave undiscovered talent the chance to create the first-ever official music videos for three of his iconic hits, and now his final farewell tour announcement takes experimentation to the next level – livestreaming in VR.

New Official Artist Channels provide a single destination for artists and fans to connect

If you’re a music fan, one of the best things about YouTube is that you can find much more than just the official version of a song. Across the platform, you can find music videos, lyric videos, covers, unplugged sets, live performances, backstage footage of your favorite artist and more.

We launched Official Artist Channels last year to help make it easier for fans to find content from their favorite artists by uniting their full body of work (from official videos to live performances, to individual songs and albums) under one channel.

Today, we’re simplifying things even more by bringing together an artist’s subscribers under their Official Artist Channel. Uniting subscribers under one channel means you’ll be able to go deeper and explore all of the content from the artists you love. For fans looking for music from the artists they love, finding the Official Artist Channel for an artist will soon be as simple as searching for their name on YouTube. You can also identify the Official Artist Channel by looking for the artist icon (the musical note) in YouTube search and on the channel page.

If you’re currently subscribed to an unofficial artist channel, you will soon be subscribed to their Official Artist Channel and your subscription to any unofficial artist channels will become inactive. The Official Artist Channel is a single destination that gives you access to an artist’s full body of work, so you’ll now receive notifications solely from the Official Artist Channel whenever new videos are uploaded or when an artist wants to send a message to their fans.

For artists, uniting your subscribers under one channel means you have more reach to promote your latest releases. It also gives you (and your team if you’ve got one) control over your presence and the opportunity to engage directly with your fans through YouTube features like Community Posts, Mobile Live and Ticketing.

We will be expanding the roll-out of the new Official Artist Channels to artists on the platform over the coming weeks. Artists looking for more information on their Official Artist Channels can read more on the Help Center. Fans looking for more information on how to manage their channel subscriptions, notifications and search for channels can visit this Help Center article and view the informational video.

A New Way for Artists to Sell Tickets and Update Fans About Upcoming Shows

Cross-posted from the YouTube Artist Blog

At YouTube, we understand the importance of helping artists find ways to build deeper connections with their fans — the ones who not only watch and listen to videos, but are also willing to pay to see live performances. And, with live concerts becoming a bigger driver of revenue for artists, we want to help artists reach those fans, keep them updated about upcoming shows, and sell more tickets.

We’ve been experimenting with ways we can offer a ticketing experience to fans and we’re excited to announce our first ticketing partnership with Ticketmaster. Starting today, we will begin featuring hundreds of artist’s upcoming U.S. tour dates on their YouTube videos. Fans enjoying an artist’s official music video on YouTube can now learn about upcoming concert listings and with a simple click, go to Ticketmaster to purchase tickets.

YouTube’s massive fan base paired with Ticketmaster’s global roster of concerts and security of verified tickets means we can easily connect a fan’s discovery of music on YouTube to their ability to purchase concert tickets.

We’re just getting started. We’ll be rolling out this feature to all artists who have Ticketmaster shows in North America with plans to expand globally. And, as part of our ongoing commitment to support artists, we’ll continue to find additional ways to make meaningful fan and artist connections.
