Huawei P9 Lite shows up on Romanian retailer’s website

huawei_logo001-780x447

The Huawei P9 Lite hasn’t been officially announced just yet, but it’s already showing up as for sale from a retailer in Europe.

That retailer is Cel.ro, a Romanian-based website. The website shows the Huawei P9 Lite as available in Gold, Black, and White color variants, all sitting at around USD$ 300. We’re not sure if you can actually go through the payment process on the website, or if they’ll actually even ship it to you right away, as it’s entirely possible this is just an “early” pre-order. Then again, Cel.ro lists the Huawei P9 Lite as in stock.

Huawei-P9-Lite-products

Either way, we still haven’t heard anything official, but according to the retailer, the specs on the handset are still quite nice. Featuring a 5.2-inch IPS Full HD display, a HiSilicon Kirin 650 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a 3,000mAh battery. The specs are interestingly a tad different than what Huawei announced in Russia not too long ago.

As far as camera optics go, you can expect to see a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, dual-SIM functionality, 4G LTE connectivity, and a fingerprint scanner. You, of course, also have Huawei’s EMUI atop of Android 6.0.

Whatever the case, it seems like the P9 Lite is available in Romania through Cel.ro. We’re not sure as to when the Huawei P9 Lite will be available from other retailers in the region. Huawei did reveal that the P9 Lite would be available in Russia in June, so it could be some time before we hear anymore details.

Meanwhile, Huawei officially took the covers off of its P9 and P9 Plus not too long ago.

We’ll have to just sit and wait for an official word from Huawei before we can get some solid details. If the launch in Russia is anything to go by, we could be waiting a couple months before we hear anything else.

Are you looking forward to the P9 Lite?

Huawei rolls out February security update for the Mate 8

Huawei_Mate8 (2)

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has been making good on its promise to distribute Google’s monthly security updates for its flagship smartphones, and today has started rolling out February’s patches for the Mate 8. This upgrade’s objective is to fix a multitude of “critical bugs” present in the open-source operating system, which, if not dealt with, could have permitted devices to be remotely accessed by a simple text message. It also addresses users concerns regarding privilege escalation as it plasters over any previous holes exposing the resources that had the facility to brick a handset if tampered with.

As usual, the update is being distributed in stages. All unlocked Mate 8 units should receive the update within the next few days, whilst carrier-branded variants are expected to get it sometime next week — so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that push notification prompting you to download and install the update. It’s worth noting, however, as this is a relatively large piece of firmware,  you’ll probably want to connect to a Wi-Fi network prior to pulling it from the servers in order to ensure you don’t run over your data allotment and rack up a nasty bill with your service provider.

Huawei P9 may be headed to CES 2016, says analyst

huawei_logo001-780x447

Today we have received more information on the upcoming Huawei P9. Huawei has had an amazing year and is looking to start off the year with a bang in its P9 handset.

According to earlier reports, the Huawei P9 carries a 5.2-inch display, the Kirin 950 SoC and 4GB of RAM. The new leak exposed details on all three P9 models, the standard P9, the P9 Lite and the P9 Max. Based on the leak, the Huawei P9 will indeed have a 5.2-inch display. The P9 Lite will sport a 5-inch display and the P9 Max will have a super large 6.8-inch screen.

Onboard the Huawei P9 will be the previously rumored Kirin 950 SoC. A 13MP camera lens will be included on the back and the front side. Most notably, the new report indicates a possible 6GB of RAM, which would be the most on any smartphone to date. From a design standpoint, the P9 is expected to include a metal body similar to that on other high-end Huawei models.

Unlike the previous report that indicated a March release, analyst Pan Jiutang expects to see the device pop-up at CES 2016 this week. If this stands true, we’re looking at a late March or early April launch.

Huawei D8 high end smartphone in pipeline for 2016

huawei_phone_d8

A new rumor out of China indicates Huawei still has plans to release the Huawei D8 even though the timing has been pushed back to 2016. An original roadmap for Huawei devices showed the Huawei D8 on schedule for 2015, but that is not going to happen.

The Huawei D8 will be powered by the as-yet-unannounced Kiron 960 processor. The device will have a quad HD 5.5-inch sapphire glass screen and come equipped with 4 GB of RAM. All of this adds up to a device targeted at the high end where Huawei hopes to start competing against Samsung’s devices. Early indications are that the device will be priced in excess of 5,000 yuan ($ 774 USD).

Huawei Nexus 6P reportedly will be the first Nexus device to have 128GB of storage

Huawei_Logo_01_TA_CES_2014

A new report by way of Android Police says that a few of its trusted sources indicates that the new Huawei Nexus 6P will come in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options.

Smartphones traditionally come in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage options, but interestingly, last year’s Nexus 6 was only available in 32GB and 64GB variants. 16GB is slowly going the way of the dinosaur, as it doesn’t offer enough storage to meet a user’s standard needs.

This news would make the Huawei Nexus 6P the first Nexus device to offer a massive 128GB model. However, it does come with its caveats. It is unlikely that Huawei will include microSD support in this upcoming device, according to sources close to Android Police. Those interested in a 128GB variant can expect to pay a $ 50-100 premium for this larger storage capacity.

It’d be expected that LG would provide the Nexus 5X in similar storage options, however, it’s highly possible we’ll only see the device in 32GB and 64GB storage options.

Google has scheduled an event for September 29 in San Francisco, where we expect all to be revealed. Only a few more weeks to go before we see the next big thing from Google!

Huawei uses fun video to tackle own name

huawei_arsenal_partnership

As an official sponsor of the Arsenal Football Club of the English Premier League, Huawei has some unique access to football, er soccer, players for advertising purposes. The result is a fun video from Huawei’s “School of Pronunciation” that ends with an explanation of how to pronounce the company’s name. Presumably this is to help clear up any confusion as Huawei moves to get in front of a larger audience around the world.

In the video, a character named Gordon Friend from the Future Facing Association of Pundits, or FFAPs, leads a class on how to pronounce a variety of Arsenal player names. He starts out easy enough with a warm-up based on Wilshere and Walcott before moving on to four players who make appearances in the video.

The Arsenal players who show up include Koscielny, Szczesny, Gnabry, and Coquelin. However, only the first three get fun and unique explanations as to how to pronounce their names.

The video ends with an explanation of the pronunciation of Huawei, which we are told is Wah-Way.
