LG V10 on T-Mobile to get Marshmallow update next week

lg_v10_company_logo_TA

According to a new post on Twitter from Des Smith, a product manager with T-Mobile, the carrier will be rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the LG V10 starting next week. This comes a little more than two months after T-Mobile started the upgrade process to Marshmallow for last year’s flagship, the LG G4. Since then, LG also released their newest flagship device, the LG G5.

No details were shared about what the upgrade may include outside of the normal Marshmallow features and updates like Doze, Now On Tap, and the changes to app permissions. Since the LG UI on the LG V10 was essentially the same as what came on the LG G4, this upgrade should be similar. The one thing that is different is the second screen that LG makes available on the LG V10, but owners who received the Marshmallow update on their LG V10 with other carriers have not noted any issues.

T-Mobile announces expansion of Music Freedom and Binge On

T-Mobile Times Square store opening, Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016.

T-Mobile is expanding their Music Freedom and Binge On products with new services and in the process, T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere has some pointed words for the competition. Music Freedom and Binge On are T-Mobile’s solutions for streaming music and video, respectively, that does not count against a user’s data limits. With the addition of new content providers today, T-Mobile now has over 100 services that are streaming across their wireless network without counting against user’s data.

Even though T-Mobile may not be counting music and video streaming over these services against user plans, they still track the traffic. According to T-Mobile and Legere, customers have streamed 90 billion songs, over 190 million hours of video, and a combined 350 petabytes of high-speed data thanks to Music Freedom and Binge On.

On the Music Freedom service, T-Mobile is adding Amazon Music, Chilltrax, ESPN Radio, OHIO.FM, PreDanz and Uforia to the list of eligible services. This brings the total number of services over 40 and according to T-Mobile, covers 96% of all music streamed over the network. Binge On gets several new additions including Dailymotion, EPIS, OVGuide, OWNZONES, Viki, YipTV, 120 Sports, Nickelodeon, Spike TV and TV Land, bringing the total number of video services to over 60 covering more than 70% of video traffic on the T-Mobile network.

Legere, in a video released in conjunction with this announcement, also addressed competitors like Verizon and AT&T. In particular, he spoke about data that gets carried over from month to month if unused. Legere points out that T-Mobile gives users a year to make use of that data while the competition only provides one or two months before recovering the available data from customer accounts. Legere also addresses some of the controversy regarding video stream quality and claims in his comments that users are wasting bandwidth on high definition data on small screens, a claim he thinks is supported by news about Netflix downgrading video streams to only 360p.

Check out Legere’s comments in the video below and then hit the source link if you want additional details about these Uncarrier changes.

T-Mobile teases Super Bowl commercial

Click here to view the embedded video.

T-Mobile is giving football fans (or just fans of Super Bowl commercials) a preview of the commercial they’ll air during Super Bowl 50 next weekend.

The teaser, released on YouTube Jan. 29, shows a soundstage and a cast of characters, including Super Bowl commercial regulars the Budweiser clydesdales, preparing to start shooting, with the voice of a director and production assistants trying to get everyone in place.

But none of those characters will appear in T-Mobile’s commercial. Instead, the commercial says, “they will be magenta and the [other] carriers will hate it.”

Super Bowl 50 starts at 5:30 p.m. Central on Feb. 7 and airs on CBS.

T-Mobile Nexus 6 now said to be getting the WiFi calling update

Nexus_6_Official_4573

T-Mobile’s popular social media figure, Des on Twitter has subtly hinted that the WiFi calling update for the Nexus 6 could be rolling out starting today. His tweet said the following – “This is shaping up to be a very Happy Memorial day weekend… #Nexus6

While he’s not making it obvious that the update is being sent out, the responses to the tweet mention that it is currently being sent out to the devices. Also the hashtag leaves nothing to the imagination.

We’re yet to see anything on the company’s site at the moment, but we’ll update you with more information as we have it. There shouldn’t be any other changes bundled with the update as the carrier is only enabling the WiFi calling feature.

So T-Mobile Nexus 6 users, are you seeing the update yet?
